Worknomadic
Building a Mobile Working Community
Conrad Albrecht-Buehler and Shinji Kuwayama

Worknomadic is an ongoing experiment to learn the needs of a community of loosely connected people who work remotely. To learn what information remote workers need and share, we've utilized the Twitter platform as a group communication channel. The group of users participating fluctuates, but we have learned so far that these users don't just need to know where a good place is to work, but if it is a good place to work right now. We've also learned that the desire to work with others changes frequently; sometimes open to sharing a café table with anyone, other times only willing to work with a select few. Fine-grained control over broadcast recipients appears to be important. Our next phase is to support these workers and their activities with an iPhone application, now underway.
