A Server Monitor Example
User: The CTO of a small start-up
Monitoring Task: Amidst his many other duties, the CTO monitors the performance of his web, mail, and database servers.
Situation Description: He needs to turn his attention to these servers when their CPU load is high, or when the database process list is long. Either case indicates to him that there may be a bottleneck that he should probe into.

Situation Description: He needs to turn his attention to these servers when their CPU load is high, or when the database process list is long. Either case indicates to him that there may be a bottleneck that he should probe into.
Outcome: Using the application, the CTO developed a better understanding of what constituted typical load on these servers, but more importantly, other members of his office began to also use the application to monitor the servers, including those who are not directly responsible for the maintenance of the servers. Other stakeholders, such as a programmer, used the application to catch an incident in which they had accidently triggered a database backup.
